Book Excerpt 1

Chapter 1 It’s time to wake up

“Open your big beautiful blue eyes, it is time to wake up!”

Those were the words my parents desperately spoke to me only weeks after my seventeenth birthday. With only one person allowed in my room at a time, fully dressed in sterile garments, my mom sat at my bedside and uttered those words over and over again.  She spoke to me, and kept telling me to open my big beautiful blue eyes.  To wake up and look at her with my pretty blues.  She sat and talked and encouraged me to wake up, with no response.  The visit came to an end and my parents were forced to leave, only to try again the next day. They had to leave with the wonder if I would ever wake up.  They went home in anticipation of the next day only to try again.  My mom returned to my bedside and spoke and encouraged me to open my big beautiful blue eyes.  Still with no response, my mom began to believe that I would wake up for my dad.  She knew that we had a special father daughter bond, and therefore suspected that I would respond to him.  She left my room and sent him in to try and reach me.
